BIRTHDAY BIRD NEST BUILD
The birthday bird nest build is a fantastic project that motivates kids to essentially think as animals do, and in the process, create something exciting and interesting. This project is a lot of fun and can be done with left over craft materials and natural debris collected from a yard or nearby green space. The birthday bird nest build is a great project to include in any animal or bird themed science birthday party.
Pen or pencils for each guest
Pieces of yarn or string
Have the birthday party guests go outside and scavenge for items they think may make a good nest. Designate a specific area so the birthday party guests do not wander too far.
Encourage the guests to collect things like sticks, grass, and pine needles, as well as tiny bits of yarn or string they may find. Feel free to sprinkle some yarn and other items around the collection area to add more fun to the scavenger hunt. Once the guests have collected a decent amount of materials, have them return to the work space. You can have the guests work outside or bring the items inside for the next step.
Instruct the guests to attempt to weave the items together into the shape of a nest. Have them put their finger tips together to mimic a bird’s beak.
Once the guests have completed their nests, instruct them to take their nest home and put it securely on a tree outside and see if a bird makes it a home!
The birthday bird nest build is a simple science themed birthday party activity that will help inspire some love and understanding for birds and animals.
