CRAZY CITRUS CHEMICAL REACTIONS

Invite a little chemistry into your next science themed birthday party with this crazy citrus chemical reaction experiment. Your birthday party guests will be offering hypotheses without even knowing it as they guess how the fruit juices will react.

Do a crazy citrus chemical reaction experiment at your next science birthday party.

Materials:

Lemons

Limes

Grapefruit

Oranges

Apple and/or several various other non-citrus fruit juices

Baking soda

Small containers

Masking tape

Pencil/Pen

Measuring spoons

Muffin pan

Juicer

Straws

 

The guests will love experimenting at your science birthday party.

 

Directions:

Squeeze each fruit into a separate container or jar.

Be sure to use the tape to label your juices.

Put about a half a tablespoon of baking soda in each section of the muffin pan. Be sure to make enough baking soda filled sections for the amount of different juices that you will be testing.

Allow the guests to dip their straws into one of the juice containers at the same time. Instruct them to hold their finger over the end of the straw to hold some juice inside.

Identify a section of the muffin pan by pointing at it and ask the guests what will happen when they put the juice on the baking soda.

All at once, have the guests drop the juice into one of the sections of the muffin pan.

Repeat for all of the different juices.
